Superintendent of Public Instruction

In late 1989 Norma Paulus resigned from her position at the Northwest Power Conservation Council to run for the position of Superintendent of Public Instruction after long time friend Verne Duncan, also from Burns, Oregon, retired from this position.  She was appointed by Governor Goldschmidt, who she had lost the 1985 election to, into the office in 1990. In 1994 she ran for reelection as superintendent and won, serving in that office until January 4th of 1999. This was the last political office that Norma Paulus held.
