Description
Constans II was baptized as Herakleios and reigned under the name Constantine, but Constans II was used in older texts and is now his standard nickname. He was the last emperor to ever serve as consul, in 642 CE, and also the first emperor in over two centuries to step foot in Rome - a visit he took to see the Pope. The rumor that he was going to move the capital from Constantinople to Syracuse proved to be fatal as he was found dead in 668 CE, supposedly murdered by his chamberlain.
