Fifty-nine letters from Union soldier John G. Burggraf to his family detail his experiences as a member of the 49th Illinois Infantry. Burggraf describes the aftermath of conflicts such as the battle of Shiloh, the capture of Fort Donelson and the battle of Pleasant Hill. The letters also provide unusual details about daily camp life.
There also is a finding aid for the Burggraf collection.
This collection is comprised of the Michael J. Carrick postcard collection and the Jim and Connie Ames postcard collection. One hundred and sixty-eight black and white and color images document Willamette University and the city of Salem, Oregon from the early 1900s through 1990. Subjects include Willamette buildings and grounds, university student activities such as parades and athletic events; and prominent downtown Salem scenes. Both sides of the postcard were scanned when applicable.
