Second Floor Quiet Study

The second floor of the library is a quiet space for study, leisure reading, and reflection.

First Floor Group Study & Moderate Conversation

The first floor of the library is for group work and moderate conversation.

Group Study Rooms

Two group study rooms accomodate up to six people. Located at the back of the second floor. Keys can be checked out at the Circulation desk for 4 hour periods.

Group Study Area

An open area with two white boards for group discussions. Located at the back of the first floor.

Individual Study Rooms

Individual study rooms are located at the back of the first and second floors of the library.

Fishbowl

Open 24 hours a day, the Fishbowl is located immediately to the left as you enter the library building. A great place to study late into the evening, the room is equipped with two student workstations, vending machines, and lockers.

Audio Visual Rooms

Two rooms with audio and video equipment for listening and viewing are located on the library second floor. Keys can be checked out at the Circulation desk for 4 hour periods.

Video Recording Room

The equipment in this room can be used to practice presentations and record audio and video. Located at the back of the first floor, the room also has a multi-regional DVD/VHS player. The room key can be checked out at the Circulation desk for 4 hour periods.

Wireless Network

The Blitznet wireless network is available on both floors for Willamette users. The Willamette guest network is also available for visitors.

Public Computers

Willamette University students, faculty, and staff can use any of the public computers located on the first and second floors. Parents, family, and visitors to Willamette have access to specially designated computers on the first floor.

Scanning Stations

Two student computers with scanners are available on the library first floor, near the research help desk.

Printers and Copiers

Printers and copiers are located on both floors of the library.

Microform Reader/Printers

These machines are located on the first floor.

The Hatfield Library offers a diverse research collection of over 425,000 volumes that include the following distinct collections.

Collison Collection

Contemporary and classic books on race and social justice topics. This collection was a gift from D. Joan Collison. Located on the library first floor.

Northwest Collection

A small collection of local and regional history and literary works about the Northwest region or by Northwest authors (defined in this case as Oregon, Washington, and Idaho) .

Popular Reading Collection

A rotating selection of best-selling and recently published fiction and non-fiction. The popular reading collection includes mysteries, thrillers, science fiction, fantasy, historical fiction, memoirs, biographies and much, much more. Located on the library first floor.

Curriculum Collection

Lesson plans, textbooks and manipulatives designed for "in class" use by teachers of grades K-12, and books written for children ages 1-18. This collection supports the curricula needs of our Graduate School of Education. Located on library first floor.

Video/DVD Collection

Classic motion pictures, documentaries, and educational films that support and enrich the curriculum. The library purchases representative films of many periods, genres, and countries. Located on the library first floor.

The Willamette University Archives is located on the library second floor. The Archives collects in the following areas.

University Archives & Records

Publications, images, administrative records, research materials, and scrapbooks dating from Willamette’s beginnings. Also available are materials relating to Freshman Glee, one of Willamette’s longest running – and most beloved – traditions.

Congressional & Political Papers

Papers, photographs, memorabilia and audiovisual materials of elected individuals representing Oregon at the state and national level with topics of local and regional interest such as: conservation and environmental issues; women’s rights; and trade issues.

Pacific Northwest Artists Archive

A collaborative project of the Willamette University Archives and the Hallie Ford Museum of Art, the Pacific Northwest Artists Archive is a collection of materials related to the careers of artists who are or were active in Oregon and Washington.

Special Collections

Manuscript collections, diaries, and the correspondence with a focus on individuals involved in regional missionary work, settling Salem, and developing Willamette University.
